A space that gathers—
before anything moves forward.
Jerusalem – Held Before the Wall places the city at a point of pause. The structure stands firm, continuous, while everything below it begins to collect. Figures gather in loose formations, not yet moving through, not yet dispersing.
There is no urgency.
No clear direction.
The wall dominates the upper field—broad, uninterrupted, holding the entire composition in place. Openings appear, but they remain secondary, absorbed into the mass of the structure.
Below, movement begins to form, but does not resolve. The figures remain small, repeated, building presence through number rather than detail.
The palette is restrained—stone, pale neutrals, and muted gold—allowing the weight of the surface to carry the scene.
This is not entry.
Not departure.
It is the moment before.
As a one-of-a-kind original, this work does not push the viewer forward.
It holds them in place—through scale, repetition, and the quiet force of gathering.
