A direction that gathers—
without needing to be defined.
Jerusalem – Toward the Gate centers on movement drawn into structure. The walls stand firm, continuous, while the opening holds the only clear point of passage. Everything else leads toward it.
The figures advance across an open foreground, stretched and softened, their forms dissolving into vertical traces. They do not stand as individuals. They move as a flow.
The path is wide, almost emptied of detail, allowing the direction itself to carry the weight. On either side, elements remain contained—water, trees, stone—present but secondary.
The gate does not invite.
It holds.
The closer the movement gets, the more it compresses—until structure overtakes space.
This is not arrival.
It is the pull toward it.
As a one-of-a-kind original, this work does not simply depict entry.
It holds a wall through direction, scale, and the quiet force of collective movement.
